So it’s about 8 hours till departure time and I’m happy to report that the entire Keep It Fresh team will be “living it large” at Electric Picnic 2007. It’s gonna be a cracker folks! Dan will be covering the live photo side of things as usual, while himself and myself will be snapping all you lovely sexy stylish punters. We’ll putting together an on the ground photo essay with our best overheard quotes, so look out for that post-Picnic. Sarah will probably be found in the silent disco and if last year is anything to go by, Kieran can be found asleep just left of the Crawdaddy stage.
Again we pray to Zeus that the weather holds up and that technology doesn’t let us down. Fingers crossed we’ll be doing some basic live blogging from the Picnic. Anyway, that’s enough of that. I’m off to pack.
We’ll see ya on the other side!

A word from one of my favorite design collectives:
“This weekends sees us bring together our biggest project to date. In a world first (please tell us if we’re wrong) we’ve managed to bring together some of the very best Irish and international creative talent to present their work at Ireland’s best festival Electric Picnic. In association with Topman we’ve programmed 30 hours of live presentations by leading artists, illustrators, directors, designers and musicians…”
Sounds like my cup of tea alright and I’ll be sure to check it out when I have some down time at the Picnic.

Last week I covered my favorite indie remixers L.A Riots so this week we pop over to the other side of the pond to have a listen to The Teenagers.
Having just finished with the Reading and Leeds festival, French trio The Teenagers are launching into a heap of dates around the UK in September. Which makes sense if you consider they just moved from native Paris to London. There debut single ‘Homecoming‘ was released Merok Records and is so lyrically in your face that I can’t play it while my mother is in the room.
But thats not why we’re here. The Teenagers Remixes is why we’re here and with good reason. They too (like L.A Riots) have remixed Scanners ‘Lowlife‘ but have also covered everyone from (likely candidates) Simian Mobile Disco and New Young Pony Club, and (not so likely candidates) Au Revoir Simone and Air. Here we offer their great take on Lo-Fi-Fnk’s ‘City’ as well as their remix of Air’s ‘Mer Du Japon’.

MP3 Air - Mer Du Japon (The Teenagers Remix)

Lovely boys that the are, The Teenagers have created a special player over on their remixes myspace page so you can hear every remix they’ve ever done…ever! Be nice if someone could give the go ahead to put them all on one nice lil CD. I’d buy it.

Ok, ok so this is a half-hearted entry due to the fact that it’s been knocking around my myspace blog for some time, yet the subject matter still enthrals me and I’m seeking a definitive playlist. Backstory is that I parked myself at home in solitary confinement for an entire day back in January and thus commenced a serious dose of déjà vu, annoyingly enough. So just to really mess with my own head I made a playlist. (read it after the jump). Warning: this may seriously wreck your head since all the songs are either insanely repetitive or their titles have repeating words in common (known as repetition in some cultures, I believe…)
What I noticed is many, shall we say, pre 80’s bands were fond fans of this saying the same thing more than the once. What does this say about our parents? Stupid? Gullible? Stupid? Gullible? Stupid? (…at least I entertain myself…)So that’s where I am right now. Any suggestions will be…considered.

If this doesn’t get you in the mood for James Murphy tonight…nothing will.
When ‘Spin Me Right Round’ kicked in I just died on the dancefloor! They even have a trucker cap wearing bad-boy like former 5ive member J! Find out all your favorite BearForce1 facts at their site.

Seems fitting we should put this up now. But we’ll get to that in a minute. Betamax Format create synth driven indie anthems to make you WORK IT…or something like that. Inspired by “soundtracks from x-rated movies of the 70’s and 80’s” among other things, Betmax Format sound their best when the vocals are thrown in for good measure, as is displayed with current single ‘You Are Welcome In My House‘. That catchy number is currently the no. 1 most played song on Phantom FM (we now refer you back to the first sentence of this post) and is sure to be a live highlight at this year’s HWCH.

With a new EP, t-shirts (yum!) and website on the way plus supporting New Yorkers Oneida on their Irish tour (Whelans Oct. 6th), Betamax Format are sure to be busy boys all the way to Christmas - and that can only be a good thing.
