Tony Wilson RIP

TW

Breaking News… Tony Wilson has passed away at the age of 57. Wilson was the founder of Factory Records and is probably the single most importand figure in the Manchester music scene from the late 70s for atleast 20 years.
24 Hour Party People is probably the best way to get an introduction to what he did although it’s not entirely factual but you’ll see that without him the world wouldn’t have heard of some very important groups, most notably, Joy Division/New Order. He was also the owner of the legendary Hacienda Club. As for the Happy Mondays, never really my cup of tea!
The photo above is when he presented a tv show called So It Goes over 30 years ago.

Tony Wilson redefined the Manchester music scene and in doing so brought about massive changes to music on a whole. Always 20 steps ahead of the game he brought some of my favorite bands into the world. Without Tony there would be no Joy Division. Just think about that for a moment…
