So here initiates my first blog post round this way. I’ve healthy dabbled on my own myspace occasionally, but here I’ll mostly be providing a healthy dose of oestrogen in this masculine mess of Phil, Dan, Dave and Kieran. This will predominantly involve dissing my own gender in an endearing, “girl power” kinda way, of course. Post modern and you know it.
I’ll begin by deflecting attention from myself, and directing you to an interesting venture here: www.myspace.com/playthesongilike
Playthesongilike is a music ‘zine available at the tills at Tower Records. It comes with a pricetag that prostitutes itself (“ZIPPO”), and, frankly, I’ll leave it up to you to marvel at it for yourself. I’ve reflected for some time as to a suitable adjective for it: proactive, I’ve decided. And, no, sadly not with that el casei immunitas vibe…
Gareth Williamson, the mastermind behind the project, featured in an article in the latest Totally Dublin and had the unenviable task of trying to explain oneself. Eloquent, it was.
Let’s hope it keeps ears close to the ground and runs with it.
I’ll conclude by deflecting attention from myself. Tetric, the new Thursday night shindig in the Hub, is going where many, many nights have tried to go before, i.e. the objectionable mission to replace/rival Whelan’s crown. Or was that Bondi…..Anyway, D-Reills and Exclamation Mark (find me a moniker to compete with that), put on a solid show, battling the anti-air conditioning rule that reigns there, and coming up with a set ranging from Peaches to Prodigy with a healthy dusting of P…P-p–…Peter Andre. That last bit may have been my inner desires seeping out. Either way, I wish them luck, if only for their forthright DJ Box dancing enthusiasm.
I like personalised stationery
I dislike non-gummed envelopes
