I’ll be attending the premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s new flick “Death Proof”, which kicks off tonight at Dublin’s Savoy. The man himself will be attending and a Q&A session will follow the screening. Also if your signature inclined Tarantino will be signing scripts at HMV Grafton Street from about 5.30pm onwards.
“Death Proof” was originally part of the Grindhouse concept, put together by Tarantino and fellow cult director Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror” coupled with “Death Proof” made up an exploitation double bill which would be screened and marketed as one film. Nice idea but apparently the concept flopped in the States and wasn’t making anyone any money so the Weinstein Company promptly split the two films and began marketing them as individual films.
I hear good things from those that have seen the films but word on the street is that “Death Proof” is a Tarantino through and through. It won’t be winning him any fans but the fan boys will lap it up. I’ll do my best to post my thoughts over the weekend but I’m neck deep in work so I won’t make any promises!
