You’d Parlay All That By Triple

It’s Friday and I am sleepy. Very sleepy. So to whip things into a frenzy, I attempt to supply you with a quickfire inventory of musings that are occupying my overactive mind:

  • Robots In Disguise are rather terrible.
  • Lightspeed Champion is rather not terrible.
  • Black coffee saved my life today. And not for the first or last time.
  • I await the Kevin Drew gig with fervour.
  • If you still haven’t seen Control, get on it.
  • Mark and Dave are DJing the Lobby Bar in Crawdaddy tonight. Get thee there. There promises to also be some lady action – ladies who have already been referred to in this post, in fact.
  • If Jessica Alba can’t wear neon denim effectively, then neither can you or I mere mortals.
  • Why aren’t more people tickled pink by the fact Super Furry Animals are playing next week?
  • My assumption accuracy is not as honed as it used to be.
  • The Some Days Never End Festival has much, much potential, though I have a feeling I will be disappointed.
  • Arts and Crafts are fun.
  • Did I mention Blur are probably reforming?…yup, thought so…

I’m losing my edge

With the official (read:not so official) “Week of The Murphy” upon us (DJ set at Antics Wednesday 29th followed by LCD Soundsystem at The Picnic) I’ve been listening to a lot of James Murphy related material lately. First up is LCD Soundsystems cover of Joy Division’s ‘No Love Lost’, also fitting in light of the recent death of the great Tony Wilson. Opening with a crunchy bass line it builds and builds in true LCD fashion, then around the half way mark turns a little Iggy Pop as Murphy lays down the vocals. This is being released as one half of a split 7″ with Arcade Fire, which is being pressed for the upcoming LCD/Arcade US tour. That kicks off in Colorado on September 17th and finishes in New York October 6th. I see an October plane ride to New York in my future. This 7″ will also be available on the band’s websites so we’ll be sure to let you know when there available.

Next up is a taste of things to come next Wednesday. Back in 2005 Murphy recorded a DFA radio mix for the BBC. You can download that and other mixes, from the slightly hidden DFA Radio Mixes mini-site.

And don’t forget we have a pair of passes to giveaway for Wednesday night DJ set. All three rooms at Crawdaddy are being opened for the event which will now hold a 900 capacity. Check out the Antics myspace for details on pre-sale tickets. LCD Soundsystem play the Friday night of Electric Picnic.

Wednesday 8th @ Antics

Great night had on Wednesday as Winterkids showed great promise with their short but energy filled set. Despite scattered applause the kept enthusiasm levels high with front man James Snider making the most of the small Crawdaddy stage as he jumped and jived to the sound of his own band. The Antics live set is a strange beast with bands needing to make the most of a short slot and indie crowd that probably hasn’t heard of them before. Winterkids are probably going to do better over in the States but as I’ve said before I think their album is a wee gem and now they’ve impressed me with their live energy. By the time Tape It rolled on as their closing number the first few rows were jumping and the applause’s fuller.

The rest of the night went swimmingly with a bizarre incident involving Sarah and Lisa getting snapped for a style blog. You can have a gander at their stylish faces (and other Antics heads) by clicking here. Dan, the lucky git, has pissed off to do a bit of travelling for the next couple of weeks so there’s no photos at present but we’ll slap up a photo post when he’s back.
