Boneface!

Animal Collective’s cover album for forthcoming album Strawberry Jam is pretty much considered, in blogging terms, the worst cover art ever. But the video for the album’s first single ‘Peacebone’ is an all together different beast. Directed by Timothy Saccenti (who has worked with the likes of Junior Boys, Patrick Wolf and Battles) the video is a bizarre yet highly entertaining journey through alien love. Freeform electronic-horror-gospel-hip-hop-soul-pop-madness is how label Domino describes the new single which you can buy here. This must have been the brief given Saccenti when he put together this surreal video. Kinda reminds me of a happier Chris Cunningham. Altogether now…Boneface!

VBS

VBS

I’ve been trying to figure out an angle as to how I should write this piece for a few days. I’ve struggled. However, I want to get some word out about VBS because I really am a fan of it and this blog is about sharing new discoveries and things that interest that hopefully interest the readers.

VBS is an internet television station from Vice (as in Vice Magazine). Given that it’s Vice and it’s the internet rather than main stream TV, VBS does things a little differently.
The shows are a lot more real and honest. They do have a few funny and light hearted pieces but some of the shows are really shocking and provocative. The Vice guide to Travel which was originally a feature length documentary is now split up and is something that really should be watched. I don’t really want to get into critiquing shows but my recommendations are below. The best thing to do is to really have a look at the site and find out what you like yourself.

Thumbs Up! - my favourite show.
Vice Guide to Travel - check this out too.

And for something really fucked up that you will never see on mainstream television (or TV at all really: This! *You really shouldn’t watch this if you’re sensitive about animals or probably if you’re in anyway squeamish but it’s real. It’s the second part of a segment from the Vice Guide to Travel show - which is actually a feature length documentary.

The Team

pic:Chris’s Judge’s Fantomville

After the success of their Dystopia panel in Totally Dublin magazine, the Judge brothers (Chris & Andrew) have released the debut issue of their new comic online, through the Candy Collective. The Team centres on…well the team. Made up of The Bat, The Fly, The Spider and The Woman, they have been stuck on Earth since 1885 and are desperate to escape. The comic contains Chris’s quirky drawings and readers of Dystopia will be familiar with Andrew’s bizarre writing sensibilities.

Candy Collective have been running online creativity and design ezine Candy for the last two years. At this year’s Garden Party (possible my favourite festival of this year) they setup in the walled garden and created a stunning mural over the course of the day, with contributions from Chris Judge, Alan Clarke, Oliver Jeffers and Brenb.

You can read the current issue of Candy here and download The Team issue 1 here.

The Garden Party

Was pretty ace yesterday. Great bands, great company and great weather. Les Bien were on top form as always. Half way through their set, the duo were joined by a full band which included the ever cool and multi-talented Richie Egan. Hot Chip were even better than last time and played some new material from the next album. Pet Shop Shops Boys were…well words wouldn’t do it justice. They define the costume change.

I missed Vitalic cos he was 45mins late (delayed plane but I heard different) and I just wasn’t arsed hanging around. Garden Party has this weird vibe were the music comes second to just chilling in the festivals amazing venue. Kudos to all the DJ’s who played the mini walled garden were Chris Judge and co. were setup. Excellent music being played every-time myself and Sarah stopped by. You can check out some live blogging from the entertainment.ie duo Dan and Lauren by clicking here.

Garden Party next year? Sure why the hell not.

Bling Ba Da Bling

Speaking of The Maccabees…they quite like this new fashion label. Enfant Terrible is dresses, hoodies and bling for everyone. The first collection is now available to buy online and falls very much into the bling category of this new range from Irish designer Ladey Jadey. If you move your eyeballs a little to the left you’ll see Niamh Ham Sandwich sporting some Enfant Terrible accessories. You can see more yummy pics like that by clicking this. The great news is that pieces from the current collection are selling out fast (including my favourite piece) and next month sees the release of new collections and a limited run of silkscreened tees. The summer sees the release of a hoody collection with guest designer Try-Sarah-Tops, which I’m really looking forward too. All in all an exciting new fashion label with designs that include dinosaurs and shiny bits. What more could one want?

Fast Forward Film Festival

On Friday night I entered the Fast Forward Film Festival which has resulted in me sleeping for the last 14 hours. I’ve loved every minute of it. The basic idea behind the festival is that bunch of crazy people get together at 5pm on Friday, are given a few basic briefs and then have 24 hours to write, produce, shoot and edit a three minute film. There were 15 films submitted in total which ranged from the hilarious to the totally bizarre. For anybody who’s ever worked in film you’ll know that putting a film together in 24 hours is no mean feat. All the entries were screened last night at The Back Loft and I was really impressed at the overall quality. Nobody is gonna put together a fully polished film in 24hrs put you can have alot of craic trying. You can see the fruits of our labour by clicking the link below. Major thanks to everyone involved. Look out for the directors cut soon! There’s a few odd bits in the film (well the whole thing is odd) as certain things had to be included in the film as part of our brief…like a lock of hair for example.
